"Helping people and businesses provide information and expertise in ways everyone can understand and relate to."
I am a little complicated but a lot of fun...
Besides being a public speaking coach and instructor, until recently something I've been doing with irregularity since the late 1980s, I am also a professional speaker, a professor, a corporate and legal trainer and. presenter, a published author, a parapsychologist, a psychic entertainer and a professional chocolatier. That diverse experience allows me to work with people of all personality types and backgrounds.
I've been an educator and corporate trainer since 1982. I've on faculty at JFK University (since 1983), Atlantic University (since 2010) and HCH Institute (since 2004). I spent close to 23 years as an instructor and presentations specialist for LexisNexis focusing on a number of specialty areas in the law, training over 20,000 people in groups or individually, and becoming well known as a creative thinking/outside the box researcher. I helped secure and retain many client law firms (as well as client firms/companies in other markets), and acted as a research consultant for several legal cases for a few client firms. I was often the "secret weapon" brought in for contract negotiations to help smooth the deal because of the credibility and reputation I'd built up in the legal community--a community that knew full well of my non-traditional outside work.
At JFK University, I taught Public Speaking for close to 20 years, and have been teaching Media Skills and Publishing for 25 years.
I've worked as a freelance public speaking and media skills coach for entrepreneurs, corporate employees and executives, and authors since the late 1980s. I was Technical Editor for (and featured in) the 1999 and 2004 editions of Public Speaking for Dummies by Malcolm Kushner. I'm an author myself, with nine published books (seven authored solely by me, two others co-authored).
As a professional speaker on the college circuit, I've spoken to audiences as large as several thousand, at colleges all over the US.
As a psychic entertainer and mentalist, I've performed for corporate audiences, colleges, sales events, holiday parties (for corporations, businesses and individuals), for non-profit organizations, and many, many private parties. In the 1980s, before switching to psychic entertainment in 1991, I performed as a comedy magician in some of those same venue types as well as in comedy clubs and bring much of what I learned about humor into my coaching.
A love of chocolate led me to offer guided chocolate tasting presentations, which I've done for law firms, corporate/business audiences, client appreciation events, colleges and at weddings and other private events (and yes, I make chocolate too, since 2010). I've even designed a team building program around making chocolate (truffles).
But perhaps there's one other unusual element in my description above caught your eye...
What I'm most known for, even in the Media...a "real life Ghostbuster"
I'm a parapsychologist; meaning, I study psychic phenomena and experiences. I've gained a reputation and credibility over the years as an expert on ghosts and psychic experience, and my books are in that subject area (though I'm branching out soon). If you scroll down below you will find a bio relevant to that work, and if you wish a deeper look, you can explore my other website, www.mindreader.com
I have had thousands of media appearance, from television to radio, podcasts to newspapers, magazines and blogs. Below are a few of my favorite TV appearances (more on My Media/Press page).
I'm well aware that many people are suspicious or skeptical of this topic. However, I was able to bring my authenticity, humor and common sense approach to the topic and present information and myself in such a way that people accepted my credibility and trusted what I said. Having the background knowledge of my field helps, of course.
This part of my life has also led me to meet, debate and deal with skeptics, debunkers and even folks I'd call "true disbelievers." I take what I've learned about handling difficult people with grace, calm, logic and a little bit of humor and pass it along to my clients.
In addition, it was common for the LexisNexis representatives and law librarians to include "and he's a real ghostbuster" in my intro for the area-of-law presentations I did at large, medium and small law firms in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City over the years.
If I can come across credibly talking about ghosts, you can come across credibly talking about almost anything...
...and I can help you get there!
