I can work with employers, organizations or groups for individual coaching or group lectures, workshops and seminars. I have already-designed programs, or can work with you to design something more specific and appropriate to your group's needs.
My typical clients
In some respects, there is no "typical" client, as I have worked with people at all levels of public speaking skill, from the "I can't speak in front of any size audience" individual to the "I'm a great speaker, but could still be a bit more relatable to the audience" speaker. Most have had some need to bring their own personality forward so that people perceive them in and out of the speaking-mode the same way.
Many of my clients are at some kind of starting point. They might:
1) be extremely nervous (though not afraid per se) when speaking, whether individually, on the phone or to groups
2) have a problem articulating in a way that keeps the audience engaged
3) be good speakers, but want to kick things up a notch (or many notches)
4) want to bring their own personality to bear in their presentations
5) want to work on how their leadership skills can be amped up by working on their speaking skills, their presentations, and their communications skills
Their biggest concerns often are:
1) "I'm boring the audience...I'm not holding the attention of the audience"
2) "I'm coming across like I don't know what I'm talking about"
3) "I'm not as effective a leader as I'd like to be"
4) "I don't feel like I'm presenting my best self when I speak"
5) "I want people to see me and my personality as one whether I'm speaking to a group or conversing one on one."
Concerns about Credibility and Acceptance
For many people, the concerns are about not having credibility, which could mean people don't think you have your facts straight, can offer good advice, can do your job effectively--or could even lose your job if you can't communicate properly.
People fear that not speaking/communicating well could lead to people not liking them, not buying their products, not consulting with them, not accept their message(s), not use their services or worse, think they're "faking it." People are also afraid they won't be liked.
In general, People do not want to be seen as the “Fool."
Nerves and Fears
Fear of Public Speaking is often listed as one of people's top fears -- sometimes ahead of fear of dying.
In reality, most people are afraid that their nervousness will get in the way and even cause them to go "blank." Going blank, people believe, makes one look like "the Fool."
Being somewhat nervous is actually a good thing. After all, you don't want to appear like you're "phoning it in," and some nervous energy keeps you looking alive. People who say they are afraid of speaking are really often nervous about being nervous.
Some people have a fear of speaking to an audience above--or below--a certain size.
Others say they're afraid they simply don't come across with any credibility, or that they can't seem to relay their message in ways their audiences can understand.
All of thee fears and nerves leave people worrying about appearing foolish.
I work with you to "fool-proof" your speaking, your presentations and yourself.
I help you establish credibility and present confidence and sincerity as you present…as you speak as yourself.
Transformation is the key
From This To This "I’m not sure people are listening to me / hearing me.” “People listen to me / hear what I’m saying”
“People don’t think I know what I’m talking about.” “People perceive that I know what I’m talking about”
“People don’t believe what I say.” “People believe what I say”
"I'm not interesting." "I'm an interesting and captivating speaker"
"I don't want to have to 'act' when I'm speaking." "I totally feel like myself when I'm speaking"
“I suck at speaking.” “I am a good speaker”… “I am a great speaker” … “I am an awesome speaker!”
Where do we start?
For most, we start with a brief conversation about your concerns and fears (see my Coaching page),your own perceptions about your speaking skills and presentations, and with assessing your current speaking ability. From there we come up with an individualized plan to both work together and for you to work on your own.
We can start with a group seminar for you and your co-workers, colleagues, friends or general public audience.
Or perhaps you're at a point in your career and personal life where you want to truly commit to speak as yourself by purchasing one of my premium packages.
What’s in it for you?
Your speaking is "foolproofed"
You speak with sincerity and credibility
You get to where you are comfortable speaking--and people feel like they're seeing the "real you"
You get to where you enjoy speaking--something the audience can see
You shift people's perceptions of you to where you want them to be
“People are listening to me…People like me...People respect me and my knowledge and advice...People follow my leadership!”
